| Sultan of Johor is nominal ruler of the Malaysian state of Johor. The sultan held absolute power over the state. The first sultan of Johor was Alauddin Riayat Shah II, the son of the last sultan of Malacca Sultan Mahmud Shah. The office of sultan is currently being held by Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Sir Ismail Al-Khalidi, a great-grandson of Sultan Abu Bakar. Johor is the third largest and one of the most developed states in Peninsular Malaysia. Its capital is Johor Bahru. Sultanate of Johor was founded by Malaccan Sultan Mahmud Shah’s son, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah in 1528. It joined the Federation of Malaya, the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. |
