| Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the Muslim festival of Eid ul-Fitr Day2 is celebrated on 21st September, annually. It is also known as Lebaran. Almost all the world Muslims celebrate this festival, literally meaning of “Hari Raya” is “Day of celebration”. The main greeting used by Muslims in Malaysia and Singapore is "Selamat Hari Raya" which means "Happy Eid" in Malay. Only the first two days are as public holidays in Malaysia. During this day, it is mandatory for Muslims to fast from dawn to dusk. Many Muslims, abstain smoking cigarettes and sexual activities during the daylight of the fasting month. On the eve shopping malls and commercial centres will hold promotions and price discounts and people purchase clothes and supplies. The Malay people celebrate the festival with family and friends. Usually the eve of the celebrations family members, mothers and housewives, will be busy preparing food, cakes, sweets, biscuits and various delicacies to be served on the day of Hari Raya. Day before the Hari Raya lit up with oil lamps known as pelita or panjut. The display of oil lamps will reach its height on the 27th night of Ramadan, called the Tujuh Likur night. On this day they wear traditional costumes. The dresses for men called Baju Melayu while the women’s known as baju kurung and baju kebaya. It is the day “Celebration Day of Fasting”. Hari Raya Aidilfitri, it marks the successful completion of fasting during Ramadhan - the ninth month of Islamic Calendar. On this day, people wear new dresses and gather for mass prayers in the morning. Muslims celebrate the festival of Aidilfitri is popularly known as Hari Raya Puasa. The first day of Aidilfitri by congregating at mosques for morning prayers. Then it is usually breakfast at home with the family, graves are cleaned and cleared of overgrowth. |
