| Hari Raya Haji is celebrated by the Muslims on the tenth day of the last month of the Muslim calendar, on 27th November. Thanksgiving prayers are offered in the mosques. Eid al-Adha or the 'Feast of Sacrifice' is known locally as Hari Raya Haji is one of the most important feasts in the Islamic calendar. The three-day festival commemorates Ibrahim's (Abraham) willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son. It is the end of the annual pilgrimage or Haj to the Holy city of Mecca. Hari Raya Aidil Adha is based on the concept of sacrifice. The meat from the sacrifices is distributed to the poor and needy. Hari Raya Haji literally means the ‘festival of pilgrimage’. It is the festival marking the day of pilgrimage to Mecca, the fifth tenet of Islam. Hari Raya Haji is known as Hari Raya Aidil Adha. This festival is celebrated by Muslims to honour pilgrims who have completed their Haj to Mecca. |
