| About Kaul |
| Kaul is celebrated, start at the end of the rainy season and the start of the fishing season in the March or April. It is the Melanau community festival, spirit of the sea, land, forests and farm. It is one of the main events on the state’s tourism calendar. The festival is celebrated on different days. The Tibou, the death defying 20-foot high swing, is one of the highlights of Kaul. It’s a colourful festival with a flotilla of highly decorated boats, beach games and lots of delicious Melanau food. After the ceremony there are games on the beach, displays of Melanau martial arts, dancing and eating. It is the best event to showcase the richness of the Melanau culture and heritage. During the opening ceremony of Kaul, all the dancers are performing a ‘Joget Malaysia’. Dancers from the Sarawak Dayak National Union perfoming a ‘Ngajat’ dance. The Kaul festival is also a recreational event with many fun-filled activities. |
