| About Independence Day |
| On August 3rd Niger got independence from France in 1960. It commemorates the Independence of Niger. From 1975 it is also known as Arbor Day. On 18th December 1958 the founding of the Republic and creation of the Presidency of the Republic of Niger following the constitutional changes of the French Fifth Republic and the elections on 4th December 1958 are held across The French Colonial possessions. Niger considers that date to be the founding of their national institutions. On July the Niger Legislative Assembly became the Nigerien National Assembly. Independence was declared on 3 August 1960. It is a Public Holiday.
