| North Korea is also known as Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). It is a state in East Asia. Its capital and largest city is Pyongyang. Until 1905, Peninsula was governed by the Korean Empire. In 1905 Korean Empire was occupied by Japan in the Russo-Japanese War. At the ending of World War II it was dividing into Soviet and U.S occupied zones. North Korea is a one party state known as Korean Workers Party. In 1948 the Korea was established Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Kim Jong-il is born on 16 February 1941, Vyatskoye, Soviet Union. Kim Jong-il is written as Kim Jong Il. His father named Kim I1-sung who is commanded 1st Batalion of the Soviet 88th Brigade. He is the de facto leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He is the Chairman of the National Defense Commission, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, and General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (the ruling party since 1948). He succeeded his father Kim Il-sung, founder of North Korea, who died in 1994, and commands the fourth largest standing army in the world. North Korea officially refers to him as the "Great Leader", formerly referring to him as the "Dear Leader". In 1945, after the World War II, Korea gained independence from Japan. During the period of September 1950 and August 1960, Kim completed the course of general education. In September 1957 he became vice-chairman of his middle school’s DYL (Democratic Youth League). He was interested on music, agriculture and automotive repair, trucks and electric motors in a practice workshop, and often visited factories and farms with his classmates. He was joined in Workers' Party of Korea in July 1961. His entrance to politics was met by the tensions within the global communist movement caused by the Sino-Soviet split. During the late 1960s, he wrote a number of discourses on economics. He elected member of the PCC in October 1972. On 24 December 1991, Kim was supreme commander of the North Korea. President Kim Il-sung died on 8 July 1994, at age 82 of a heart attack. |
