About Saint Nicholas' Eve
Saint Nicholas is the common name for Nicholas of Myra. He is a saint and Bishop of Myra. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him. He is traditionally identified as a 4th century bishop of Myra in Asia Minor. He is the subject of many lagends. He saved a poor man family from the prostitution by giving three bags of gold to the daughters of a poor man. In the Netherlands St. Nicholas’s feast is a children’s holiday which is on December 6 annually. It is the day especially important in the Netherlands. It is called as Sinterklaas. Because of translation of his relics to Bari in southern Italy, he is known as Saint Nicholas of Bari. He is also the patron saint of Barranquilla (Colombia), Bari (Italy), Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Russia.
