About Renaissance Day
Sultanate of Oman is an Arab country in southwest Asia on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Muscat is the capital and largest city of Oman. It is also the seat of government and largest city in the Governorate of Muscat. Muscat was ruled by various indigenous tribes as well as foreign powers such as the Persians and the Portuguese Empire at various points in its history. There is an important port-town in the Gulf of Oman. Muscat's economy is dominated by trade, petroleum and porting. Oman celebrates ‘Renaissance Day’, the anniversary of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos accession to the throne on June 23, 1970. This is an official holiday for employees and ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state’s administrative apparatus.
