About Saint Rose of Lima
The celebration of her feast day in Lima is a particularly important one. Isabella Flores, commonly known as Rose, was born in Lima , Peru , in 1586, and became the first canonized saint of the Western Hemisphere. She received the sacrament of Confirmation from St. Turibius, archbishop of Lima. Her feast celebrate on March 23. This holy woman is highly honored in all Spanish-American countries. The emblems associated with her are an anchor, a crown of roses, and a city. The Shrine of Saint Rose of Lima, located in the historic centre of Lima, opened its doors early morning to receive devotees and visitors who every year come together to celebrate this day. During the day, people will be able to visit the Saint’s monastery, her house, and the well in the garden of the hermitage, where pilgrims leave letters detailing their needs. Besides this ritual there are parades in fancy dress and masks, feasting, music and dancing.
