| About People Power Day |
| To give the citizenry full opportunity to honor the memory of the People Power Day, the Philippines government declared Feb. 25 a special national holiday. People Power Day commemorates the three-day bloodless uprising, better known as People Power Revolution, that toppled the Marcos dictatorship on February 25, 1986. The days festivities usually start with a Mass celebrated by Jaime Cardinal Sin, a key figure of the revolution, followed by a program of speeches and performances at the nearby People Power Monument. Former Presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos lead the festivities, just as they led and inspired the people that defied the Marcos regime and fearlessly faced the tanks and soldiers sent to crush the revolution. Flowers are placed on the monuments of Revolution heroes. |
