| This day memorializes the famous battle of Cerro Cor, in1870, during the War of the Triple Alliance, which pitted the combined forces of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay against Paraguay. After witnessing his army weakened against the formidable foe, and moments before his death at Cerro Cor, Paraguay's leader, Marshal Francisco Solano L pez proclaimed, "I die with my country!". This day treated as Heroes' Day in Paraguay. Also known as National Defense Day. |
