About Hangul Day
Hangul Day is celebrated on October 9th in South Korea and on January 15th in North Korea.Hangul Day, which commemorates the invention to Hangul, the Korean writing system, was designated a national holiday in 1945, but was downgraded from a commemoration day in 1990. In 1946, Hangul Day was designated a national holiday in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Hangul’s distribution. Hangul Day was declared as a legal holiday to be marked on October 9, on which governmental workers are excused from work.
