| Hangul Day is celebrated on October 9th in South Korea and on January 15th in North Korea.Hangul Day, which commemorates the invention to Hangul, the Korean writing system, was designated a national holiday in 1945, but was downgraded from a commemoration day in 1990. In 1946, Hangul Day was designated a national holiday in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Hangul’s distribution. Hangul Day was declared as a legal holiday to be marked on October 9, on which governmental workers are excused from work. |
