| Sierra Leone gained independence in 27 April 1961.Independence Day celebrations mainly centred on the harbour area of Freetown. Three days of public holiday have been declared, and Celebrations begin with the hoisting of the national flag and singing the national anthem, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony. The whole country gathers in public Places around bonfires and listens to speeches about the independence of the country. On the day streets, colorful flags are raised on public buildings and private houses. |
