| About Independence Day |
| The Independence Day is celebrated on August 11th of every year in Chad. In 1960 August 11th, Chad gained its independence from France. Chad calls sometimes the “Dead Heart of Africa.” It is a national holiday of Chad. Chad is a melting pot—over 200 ethnic and linguistic groups, though the official languages are French and Arabic. Still, the French only officially moved in 1920—so Chad spent a mere 40 years under French control. The Chad people are living in the region since the 7th millennium BCE in France. Chad Independence Day is celebrated on January 11. Originally celebrated on the anniversary of the day, August 11th, 1960, when Chad achieved independence, but was moved to January 11 to avoid the rainy season. The Republic of Chad shares a huge diversity of people with different languages and culture. |
