| Melon Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of August. Melon Day is a national holiday in Turkmenistan. In 1994 Turkmenistan’s previous president Saparmurat Niyazov established this holiday. The melon-growing is one of the important sectors of agriculture. On the day colorful exhibitions and fairs are arranged in the cities and villages. Turkmenistan is bounded by the Caspian Sea in the west, Kazakhstan in the north, Uzbekistan in the east, and Iran and Afghanistan in the south. |
