| The Zanzibar Revolution Day of the Tanzania is celebrated on 12th January. The Zanzibar Revolution saw the 1964 overthrow of the Sultan of Zanzibar and his mainly Arab government by local African revolutionaries. Zanzibar Revolution day seems to be an excuse to the government here to have a big parade which is shown on all the TV channels. It is now 42 years since they overthrew the Omani Sultanate. The Zanzibar Archipelago, now part of the East African republic of Tanzania, is a group of islands lying in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanganyika. |
