| Uruguay is also called in local as REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY. April 19 is a national holiday in Uruguay. Landing of the 33 Patriots Day is observed on April 19 annually in Uruguay. It is celebrated in commemoration of anniversary of the landing of the Thirty-Three Orientals in 1825. Then they began a Uruguay’s Independence campaign. A revolutionary military group called as Treinta y Tres Orientales in local language means Thirty-Three Easterners in English and led by Juan Antonio Lavalleja held a campaign against Empire of Brazil in 1825. This led to the foundation of Uruguay which is a historical territory encompassing modern Urguay and part of modern Brazilian Rio Grande do Sul from Brazilian control. |
