| The Feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrates the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is celebrated on 8 December, nine months before the Nativity of Mary. According to Roman Catholic Dogma the Immaculate Conception is the conception of the Virgin Mary without any stain of original sin called in Latin as "macula". Under this aspect Mary is sometimes called the Immaculata means the Immaculate One, particularly in artistic contexts. The feast of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated on 8 December, was established as a universal feast in 1476 by Pope Sixtus IV. In the Roman Catholic Church, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is a Holy Day of Obligation, except where conferences of bishops have decided. It is a national holiday in Venezuela. |
