| The Three Kings Day is celebrated in commemoration of the arrival of the magi bearing gifts to the baby Jesus. It is commonly known as Epiphany or Dia de lost Reyes Magos. It is celebrated on January 6 of every year. After unwrapping of the Christmas gifts were over many communities in US Virgin Islands and Pureto Rico celebrates this holiday. The United States (US) Virgin Islands observe the day as a public holiday. It is also National holiday in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and many others. It celebrates three wise men’s visit to baby Jesus and also his baptism. According to this biblical story the Kings or Wise Men or Magi, who according to legend are named Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar presented the baby Jesus with gold, frankincense and myrrh on this day. During this week long festival is celebrated by giving gifts. It is looked upon as an extension of the Christmas holiday. All government agencies and business are closed. On this day elders tell this story to the children. There will be a parade on this day in Virgin Islands. And after that families gather together for a community meal. After that for the gifts from the Wise Men are given to the children. |
