| About Vietnam Liberation Day |
| April 30 in Vietnam is known as Liberation Day, Reunification Day or Victory Day and called in Vietnamese as Ngay Giai phóng, Ngay Thong nhat or Ngay Chien thang. It is a public holiday in Vietnam and is commemorated to mark the occasion of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops capturing Saigon which is now called as Ho Chi Minh City, the Capital of South Vietnamese on April 30, 1975. This is the end of the Vietnam War, known in Vietnamese as Chien tranh Viet Nam which means Vietnam War or Khang chien chong means Resistance War against America in Vietnamese which is also commonly known as the “American War”. It was the start of the transition period toward reunification, which occurred July 2, 1976. It resulted in the reunification of Vietnam under Communist rule and Saigon was renamed Ho Chin Minh City. The anniversary is marked by several festivals around the date as it is one of the Major Vietnam Festivals & Events. This is a national holiday in Vietnam. |
