| Dasara is also called "Navaratri", is among the most important festivals celebrated in India. Navratri in Gujarat holds a special significance. The Rasa and Garba dances by men and women of all sects to please the Goddess. The Dasara festivities were first started by the Vijayanagar Kings in 15th Century. Dasara is the festival of celebrating the women power. Chamundeshwari is the personification of courage and power. During the 10 day festivities the normally clam, peaceful city erupts into life and every street and street corner is bustling with activity. House, shops and important buildings in the city are decorated and illuminated for the period of the Dasara celebrations. During the ten days of the Dasara, the demons in the form of wicked qualities have been routed. |
