Siva told Parvati about the significance of the Karva Vrat. Karva Chauth is celebrated on the 4th day of the dark moon and falls 9 days before the Diwali in the month of Kartik (October - November). On this day the women observe a fast, praying for the long life, well being and prosperity of their husbands.
