| About Saint Ursula's day |
| Saint Ursula's day is celebrated on 21st October. Saint Ursula is a British Christian saint. According to a legend that appeared in the tenth century, she is the daughter of a Christian king of Britain, King Dionotus of Cornwall. She had taken a vow of chasity, and yet against her will she was betrothed to a pagan prince. To avoid war she agreed on condition of his conversion and a delay of three years. She set sail accompanied by 11,000 virgins and arrived in Cologne, when an angel advised her to take a pilgrimage to Rome. On their way back, they were stopped near Cologne by the invading Huns. The leader of the Huns immediately fell in love with the British princess and proposed to her. As he was rejected, he went mad and ordered the slaughter of Ursula, her companions and their 11,000 maiden servants. |
