| About Visakha |
| Visakha Bucha Festival is held in the month of May. Visakha Festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Lord Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. This festival celebrated on the full moon of the sixth lunar month. On the day of Visakha Bucha Festival devotees gather at the local temples to light candles. Visakha, also referred to as Migara's mother (Migaramata), was one of the chief female lay disciples of the Buddha. She became a stream-enterer and died at the age of 120. The best time of all to visit the Marble Temple is during the Festival of Visakha Bucha in mid-May when pilgrims dance three times around the bot holding thousands of flickering candles. |
